Chew your way into a new world.
Munch leaves. Molt. Rest. Molt
again. Self-reinvention is everything.

Advice from a Caterpillar
Dearest Creature
Many thanks to a treasured source for daily wisdom and inspiration, Whiskey River, for posting the above quote written by Amy Gerstler just at the right time for my wandering eyes to find it. And thank you, Amy, for writing the words.
Memoir on the Fly is a reinvention of my 8-year running blog, Switched At Birth (9/2003-9/2011). It’s retired, but the archives are here, along with a smattering of pre-blog era journals and pre-digital scanned photos. It’s Memoir. On the fly.
As for the pictures, I would never presume to call myself a photographer. Cheeky enough to say I’m a writer. I live in a hundred-acre Longleaf pine preserve near Pensacola, Florida. Sometimes I travel. I walk a lot. I’m interested in decaying wood, tiny moss spores, wildflowers, mushrooms, food, urban settings when I’m lucky enough to visit one, and whatever momentary floater pleases me. My cheap tiny camera is with me everywhere. I point. I shoot.
Welcome, and thanks for reading.

The wilderness dwindles. I wish you both a safe haven wherever, whenever.
Disassembling the Christmas tree this year, I thought about next Christmas, which led to thoughts of packing ornaments in boxes to give the Grandchildren and possibly exchanging a decorated cedar for a plain palm in some even warmer winter clime. But then, I began to wonder whether as today’s young people become adults, will they prefer virtual trees, decorated with virtual ornaments on a touch screen over these quirky, sweet old bits of reality?
Best wishes to you and your family, too, Dick. I look forward to reading you again throughout 2012.
