Gulfcoast Fritillary on Short-Leaf Gayfeather

IMG_4147
An amateur has to be stealthy, quick and lucky to take a picture of a butterfly. This one isn't great, but I was proud to get it. I think it is a Gulfcoast Fritillary, but (Kathleen? Deb? Bill? Wally?) if I am wrong, please let me know and I'll correct the title.

  1. Aren’t they gorgeous! I love the opalescent underwing. Great picture and you got the ID, just a small name correction. Omit the coast. Gulf Frittilary.
We’re back in the swing after the High Plains. I thought about you and Buck at Palo Duro Canyon. Dramatic and spiritual, the inspiration for Georgia O’Keeffe’s first canyon oil paintings.

  2. I prefer it’s more common name: “Simply Beautiful”.
Oh, wait, that’s my generic name for most things in nature.
They like my Pentas and Mexican Flamevine in the back yard.
