Box Turtle

Box Turtle
This adorable little guy ( I think "guy" because of his red eyes) is either a Florida Box Turtle or a Gulf Coast Box Turtle.  He was sitting in the middle of an established fire line road (not recently plowed like others have been) when Buck and I came strolling by. I didn't even see him, but Buck's sharp eyes spotted him right away.

"Did you bring your camera?"

I did, but the darn "low battery" signal flashed when I turned it on. I tried anyway, and got lucky.

I was happy as a little kid at the fair when we got back home and I downloaded this picture. Seems like the woods always yield a keepsake to gladden the heart.

  1. I’ve been exploring all over your blog, Beth, and it’s delightful. Love your little guy here. I’ve got painted turtles in my New England white pine surrounded pond, and I’m always happy, too, whenever I find them, except when I have to repeatedly rescue the same one from the road. That’s a story for another time, though, and will eventually make it to my blog. 😉
Again, I’m so glad we’ve found each other. I’m looking forward to comparing notes. Happy walking and writing!

  2. What a find!! I’m so glad your battery wasn’t completely useless; praise the Lord for that. Opportunities like this don’t come along very often.
I wonder if the box turtle was the inspiration behind the gift packages of the chocolate and caramel variety.
