I read a “book in letters” (The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society) last year. It became a best seller; a sweet little book, but remarkable to me that its sepia-tinted style sold quite a lot of books.
I got out of bed this morning at 5:47 with this burning idea of writing a “novel in blog posts.” It will basically be an “eat love pray” for the armchair-traveling, blogging set — mostly women, but a few men as well.
Several things are needed for this project: select a group of 8-10 bloggers from among my usual set plus explore a little farther afield, too, for a touch of quirk. Get a poster board to make profiles of them. And then read, read, read their blogs. Make bios from their blogs. Become a literary stalker.
That’s the research phase and all that will be needed in the research department.
There will be years of blogging in the novel, miraculously shortened by the desire to get published quickly, punctuate by the first “meet up” of the group and then annual or maybe every three to five year reunions. Thus, the classic story of coming-of-age, friendship, and all the various events that make life — birth, death, romance, etc. — can be told within this type of vessel and medium.
/woo-hoo! I can definitely do this. It’s enough to wake a woman up.
