Oh, yes. And to the man who has only a hammer, everything looks like a nail. But the invisible metaphorical tool kit is far deeper than our bleak or chipper conscious minds can know. Sometimes the subconscious sends bulletins, and we’re supposed to pay attention, and to act on the messages if we can. I may think I have only one tool, a dull potato peeler, but there’s a jumble of everything useful down there. In my bleak moments, I can forget that. In my sunny ones, I can think it doesn’t matter.
