On the Naming of Spouses

I thought about using a pseudonym for my husband. That brought on the problem of what to call him  if I’m not going to use his real name. The name of an ex-boyfriend? It’s been so long ago, I can barely remember any except maybe that aggravating wannabe who used to pull my pony tail in third grade. Just kidding. I can remember a few, but it seems vaguely disloyal to use an old boyfriend’s name. Certainly not an ex-husband’s. I’ve only got one ex anyway, so that’s out. I don’t want to use something third person, like “The Husband” or “The Hunk” or “The Guy I’ve Been Sleeping with for Thirty Years.” Initials look funny on the page, too.

Besides, my former blog ran for almost ten years, and readers know and have seen pictures of my husband, several generations of our Labrador retrievers, my step-kids, grandchildren, and have walked our woods and traveled all over creation with us. Ducking and hiding might be smart, but it’s not in my nature.

So, my husband will continue to be who he is and has always been: Buck.
